Tacoma, Wash.-based Interstate Distributor Co. has signed an agreement to deploy 10 liquefied natural gas (LNG)-fueled trucks.
Blu., which operates nearly two dozen LNG stations across the U.S., said it signed the agreement with Interstate Distributor as a result of a program that allows companies to test out trucks powered by the fuel. Following the initial test period, Interstate Distributor decided to purchase 10 new Kenworth trucks equipped to run on LNG.
“Our unique truck demo program offers customers like Interstate Distributor a great opportunity to see firsthand how LNG is the ideal alternative to diesel,” Blu. CEO Merritt Norton said. “LNG is low-cost, efficient and provides trucks the range they need to get the job done.”
Blu. said that agreement makes Inerstate Distributors the first national carrier based in the Pacific Northwest to deploy a fleet of LNG trucks.
Interstate plans to refuel the trucks in a network that includes two Blu. stations in Sumner, Wash., just east of Tacoma, and Portland, Ore.
