Biotech Company Harvests Switchgrass for Fuel

THOUSAND OAKS, CA --- Biotech company Ceres has begun harvesting new switchgrass and sorghum seeds for its first foray into the biofuel feedstock market, the company told Greentech Media.
During a recent biofuel seminar with General Motors at Ceres' corporate headquarters in Thousand Oaks, Calif., the company revealed plans to place the seeds on sale -- in time for the spring planning season in the U.S.
Ceres raised $75 million in September to expand into the biofuel market. The company will sell seeds for two switchgrass types developed by company researchers, along with seeds for three other kinds of switchgrass cultivated by the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
