Automotive Fleet has been named a 2024 Eddie & Ozzie Awards finalist in the "Column/Blog — B2B, Travel/Transportation" Eddie category.

The blog in question, "What the Industry Got Wrong on EVs," written by AF Associate Publisher Chris Brown, is from an ongoing blog series started in 2021 titled "FleetTakes."

In the blog, Brown touches on the challenges and realities of fleet electrification, emphasizing that no fleets are implementing EVs purely for financial reasons. Despite marketing claims over the past five years that EVs offer a favorable total cost of ownership, the upfront costs are still significantly higher than traditional internal combustion engine vehicles.

Brown highlights issues such as the high cost of charging infrastructure, the lack of a secondary market for EVs, and the complexities of managing new expenses related to electrification. He notes that the industry should focus on practical solutions and celebrate the progress of those with greening the environment as their goal.

In previous years, Brown has won the following Eddie awards:

  • 2020 Column/Blog Winner - B2B, Travel/Transportation:Auto Focus Blog published on Auto Rental News.

  • 2019 Best Single Article - B2B, Transportation: "What's in that White Cargo Van?" printed in the Jan/Feb 2019 issue of Business Fleet Magazine.

  • 2017 Single Article/Series of Articles - B2B, Transportation: "Private Interests" published on Auto Rental News.

  • 2015 Best Single Article - B2B, Transportation: "The Problem with Renting Fast Cars" printed in the Auto Rental News 2015 Fact Book.
