German automaker Audi’s new electric vehicle (EV) charging service, due to launch January 1 in 27 countries, will offer three available charging tariffs, including a pro tariff as low as 35 cents per kilowatt hour for frequent drivers in Germany.

Replacing the Audi e-tron Charging Service, the new system will provide easy access to more than 800 providers and some 400,000 charging points across the European charging grid, according to Audi.

Available to Audi customers who drive a battery electric vehicle (BEV) or a plug-in hybrid (PHEV), the system will also include access to 1,900 IONITY high-performance chargers (HPC) will allow fast charging of up to 350 kilowatts of power along major traffic routes.

New Audi customers or drivers of current Audi models will switch to the new service with a choice of three tariff levels: basic, plus and pro.

The pro tariff is aimed primarily at EV drivers who must frequently charge on the road. In Germany, the monthly base fee is €14.99, but drivers are offered a price of 45 cents per kilowatt hour at alternating current charging stations (AC). Recharging the vehicle’s high-voltage battery at IONITY quick-charging stations with the pro tariff will cost 35 cents per kilowatt hour.

Audi will pay the base fee for the pro tariff for the first year.

Drivers who require occasional on-the-road charging may choose the plus tariff at a monthly base fee of €7.99, with a minimum charge of 48 kilowatt hours required at a DC charging station per month.

While available with no base fee, the basic tariff level charges higher kilowatt prices. However, the option provides full access to the Europe-wide charging network. The basic tariff is suited to home chargers who occasionally need an uncomplicated charging solution on the road, without fixed monthly obligations, according to Audi.

The new charging system offers a range of features through its “Plug & Charge” function and the myAudi app, such as charging cost transparency, pre-route planning and automatic charge startup.

Additional information on the new Audi charging system and its three tariff options is available on the carmaker’s website.
