LAS VEGAS - AT&T was recognized May 11 for itsoutstanding leadership in the alternative fuels and vehicles industry at the 16^th Alternative Fuels & Vehicles Conference + Expo 2010.

In 2009, the communications giant announced the replacement of 15,000 vehicles over the next ten years with alternatively fueled and powered models. This will displace 2.5 million barrels of oil, reduce carbon output by 211,000 metric tons, and create or save 5,500 jobs, according to the Alternative Fuel Vehicle Institute (AFVi).

The Green Fleet Award was presented to Jerome Webber, vice president of Fleet Operations, the chief strategist behind this new direction. In 2009, Webber was also recognized by Automotive Fleet as an Environmental Leadership Award winner.

In February, AT&T rolled out its 1,000^th alt-fuel vehicle as part of its goal announced in March 2009 to deploy more than 15,000 alt-fuel vehicles by 2019. The company also plans to take delivery of two of the Ford Transit Connect Electric models later this year.
