LITTLE ROCK, AR --- Arkansas Gov. Mike Beebe has signed into law a bill making a seat-belt violation a primary offense.
Under the previous law, officers could issue citations for seat-belt violations only after stopping the vehicle for another offense.
The new law authorizes law enforcement officers in the state to stop a driver solely for not wearing seat belts. When the law goes into effect on June 30, Arkansas will become the 27th state to primarily enforce its seat belt law.
