ONTARIO, CA – The Air Quality Management District (AQMD) held its 4th annual Southern California Clean Vehicle Technology Expo in Ontario, Calif., Oct. 13-15. The Expo was a comprehensive event for fleets to experience the latest in clean vehicle technologies.
The event was heralded by the AQMD as California's premier event for fleet and purchasing managers, infrastructure providers, diesel emission reduction technology companies, public agencies, alternative-fuel stakeholders, and other industry experts to learn about the billions of dollars in funding programs available and the clean technologies this funding is meant to purchase.
The three-day event began with "Money Monday," including sessions on such topics as Financial Success Stories: Reducing Emissions and Operating Cost; Private Funding Opportunities; and a panel discussion regarding AB 118 – California's Alternative and Renewable Fuel and Vehicle Technology Program.
The second day of the event's sessions included such topics as Moving Beyond NOx and PM: Greenhouse Gas Emissions from Transportation; Innovative Partnerships for New Clean Air Vehicle Technologies; and A Timeline for Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Vehicles.
Presenter Matt Haber, deputy director, Air Division, U.S. EPA Region 9, stated, "We don't need evolution, we need revolution." Revolution seemed to be a key component of the conference. Haber also discussed the EPA's flagship partnership with UPS on a series hydraulic hybrid urban delivery vehicle. "To get where we need to go from an environmental and energy standpoint, we need to coordinate our goals," said Haber.
The third day included breakout sessions on such topics as Small Volume Manufacturers and Retrofits for Lower Fuel Costs and Emissions and OEM Products for 2009 and Beyond. The event concluded with a ride-and-drive of alternative-fuel, clean vehicles.
