Altec Recalling Wood Chippers, Aerial Devices
WASHINGTON – Altec Industries Inc. is recalling 210 model-year 2009-2011 DC-912A and model-year 2010-2011 WC126A wood chippers manufactured from January 2009 through July 2011, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reported.
WASHINGTON – Altec Industries Inc. is recalling 210 model-year 2009-2011 DC-912A and model-year 2010-2011 WC126A wood chippers manufactured from January 2009 through July 2011, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reported.
According to the NHTSA, fatigue failures can occur at the bearing grease hole located on the axle spindle. As a result, the spindle on the axle could fail, allowing the wheel to separate from the chipper. This poses a crash risk.
Altec will notify owners of the recall, and dealers will replace the axles free of charge.
In addition, Altec is recalling 67 model-year 1997-2009 aerial devices equipped with the BCM 44B electrical leakage monitoring system. According to the NHTSA, the meter was incorrectly installed and the wiring may come loose – even though the meter may indicate that it is working properly. Failure of the leakage monitoring system could result in the user touching a conductor without being aware that it may be energized. This poses an electrical shock or electrocution risk.
Dealers will make the necessary repairs free of charge.
Owners can reach Altec at (877) 435-9258.
