Acura ILX Draws Top Safety Score
The 2016-MY luxury sedan earns a 5-Star overall rating in NHTSA’s New Car Assessment Program.

The 2016 Acura ILX luxury sedan has drawn a 5-Star overall rating – the highest overall score possible – from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s New Car Assessment Program.
To qualify for the top score, the sedan drew 5 out of 5 stars in the side crash test and 4 stars each in the frontal crash test and rollover assessment, according to NHTSA.
MGA Research Corp. performed the tests in mid-June, but results were just released.
The Acura RLX and TLX sedans have also drawn top overall safety scores from NHTSA.
AcuraWatch, a suite of safety and driver-assistance technologies, is available for Acura models. AcuraWatch includes features such as a collision mitigation braking system (including forward collision warning), road departure mitigation, a multi-view rear camera with dynamic guidelines, as well as adaptive cruise control and a lane keeping assist system. Sensor-fusion technology enables new capabilities, including pedestrian sensing.
“AccuraWatch can help improve the driver’s situational awareness and, in certain circumstances, can intervene to help avoid a collision or mitigate its severity,” Acura said.
Additionally, the vehicle’s ACE (advanced compatibility engineering) body structure design helps distribute crash energy more evenly throughout the front of the vehicle, Acura said. The front wheelhouse upper member, front pillar, side sill and front floor frame are the main areas that were reinforced to improve performance in small-offset frontal collisions on the 2016 ILX.
