2014-2015 Jeep Cherokees Recalled for Air Bags
The global recall, which includes 168,092 vehicles in the U.S., will address the risk of inadvertent air bag deployment.

FCA US, formerly known as Chrysler Group, is recalling an estimated 228,181 Jeep Cherokees in the 2014 and 2015 model years to address the risk of inadvertent air bag deployment.
This global recall, which includes an estimated 168,092 vehicles in the U.S., will allow dealers to upgrade software governing side-curtain and seat-mounted side air bags, FCA US said.
“The action follows an investigation by FCA US engineers after a small number of inadvertent deployments involving drivers who executed extreme maneuvers,” the automaker said in a released statement. “These maneuvers dramatically changed the vehicles’ angle of operation, relative to the ground. The air-bag systems, sensing potential rollovers, automatically activated.”
FCA US added that it is unaware of any related injuries or accidents.
When the software upgrade becomes available to dealers, it will recalibrate the threshold for air bag deployment in the vehicles. The Jeep Cherokees will remain compliant with all applicable safety regulations, FCA US noted.
In addition to the vehicles in the U.S., there are 19,557 in Canada and 4,133 in Mexico. A total of 36,399 are outside the NAFTA region, the automaker said.
