2017 Ford Fusion

The second-generation Ford Fusion gets a major refresh for the 2017-MY — so major, in fact, it’s practically a redesign. From the all-new Platinum and V6 Sport editions to the available SYNC 3 infotainment system, the new car will undoubtedly turn heads in the fleet market and beyond.

In a crowded mid-size sedan market that also includes the Toyota Camry, Honda Accord, and Chevrolet Impala, the Fusion distinguishes itself in two ways: First, it is highly customizable with five trim levels, four option packages, and several stand-alone add-ons. Second, the top-of-the-line V6 Sport brings genuine “badassery” to a traditionally tame segment with a 2.7-liter turbocharged V-6 that delivers 325 horsepower (hp) and 380 pound-feet (lb.-ft.) of torque.

Specs for the 2017 Ford Fusion

The base Fusion S makes do with a 175-hp four-banger that gets a combined fuel economy of 25 miles per gallon (mpg). SE buyers have the option of upgrading to a 1.5-liter, 181-hp turbo — which leads the lineup with 34 mpg in highway driving — or a 2.0-liter turbo that ups the ante to 245 hp but gives away 3 mpg on the highway.

Wedged between the SE and V6 Sport are the Titanium and Platinum editions, both of which come equipped with the 2.0 as well as a long list of standard and optional features.

Starting from the bottom, the S comes with 16-inch alloy wheels, full power, Bluetooth and smartphone connectivity, automatic headlights, and cruise control. In addition to the engine options, the SE includes 17-inchers, power driver and front passenger seats, and a six-speaker stereo.

Appearance, Luxury, and Technology packages are available on the SE, adding such uptown features as bigger wheels, upgraded stereo and upholstery, and the SYNC 3 interface on an 8-inch touchscreen.

Titanium and Platinum editions include all of the above plus a 12-speaker stereo, unique styling cues, and, on the Platinum, a power-adjustable steering wheel.
