LONGWOOD, FL - SCT Fleet Solutions, a provider of fuel efficiency & safety solutions for the fleet industry, announced the appointment of William (Bill) D. Gibson to the position of Vice President, Sales and Marketing.
Following a 38-year career at General Motors, including 21 years in the Fleet & Commercial Operations channel, Gibson retired from General Motors April 30th, 2011.
While at General Motors, Gibson held a key management position when he assumed the position of Global Fleet Sales Manager in 2001. With his leadership and a focus on customer satisfaction, his team helped reestablish General Motors as a worldwide leader in the fleet industry.
“With the challenges facing the fleet industry today and with the product SCT has developed, I feel I’m in an unusual position where I can leverage my personal network and knowledge of the industry to bring cost effective solutions to help the industry,” Gibson said.
A Texas native, Gibson joined General Motors in March 1973 at the GM Assembly Division (GMAD)-Arlington assembly plant. He quickly moved from a plant foreman to GMAD’s Central Office Operations in Detroit, Michigan, where he held numerous positions on GM’s Corporate Financial Staff. In 1991, he joined GM’s Corporate Fleet & Government Sales Operations.
During his 21 years in Fleet & Commercial Operations, Gibson held the positions of Director-Fleet & Commercial Sales, Director - Rental Sales and Director - Marketing & Internal Support. His recent responsibilities included GM’s Global Fleet Sales, Fleet Management Company Relations, Global Fleet Sales and Federal Government Sales.
Gibson is also a strong supporter of the fleet management profession and was an involved member of various fleet industry organizations that included American Fleet & Leasing Association (AFLA), where he was a past board member, NAFA and American Automotive Leasing Association (AALA).
Gibson’s academic background includes a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in finance & accounting from the University of Texas at Arlington and graduate work in economics at the University of Texas at Arlington & Central Michigan University.
Gibson has been married for 38 years; he and his wife have three grown children and currently reside in the Detroit Michigan suburbs, but will be relocating the Florida.
