Volkswagen Group of America, Inc. is recalling an estimated 12,645 2018 to 2019 Audi Q5 and SQ5 luxury SUVs because the brake master cylinder casting may be too short.

This situation can cause a sudden loss of brakes, increasing the likelihood of a crash. The automaker reports that the electronic parking brake and its emergency brake function are not affected by the issue and will continue to function.

To fix the problem, Audi has notified owners, and dealers will inspect the brake master cylinder, replacing it as necessary, at no cost to owners. The recall began May 3. Owners can reach Audi customer service at (800) 253-2834. Audi's reference number for this recall is 47O9.
