Nissan Extends Leaf Range to 226 Miles
Nissan has unveiled the 2019 Leaf e+, which includes a new powertrain and additional power and a range of up to 226 miles.

Nissan has unveiled the 2019 Leaf e+, which includes a new powertrain and additional power and a range of up to 226 miles, and will be available along with the existing model.
A new version of the Leaf's electric powertrain allows it to reach the longer range, according to the automaker. A high-capacity battery and more powerful, 160 kW motor in the Leaf e+ combine to produce 45% more power and 250 lb.-ft. of torque. Meanwhile, accelerating from 50 mph to 75 mph is nearly 13% quicker.
Also, a new 70 kW Quick Charging system allows the Leaf e+ to charge with a 100 kW charger at a similar rate that the standard Leaf does when using a 50 kW chargers, despite it having larger battery storage, said Nissan. The physical size of the new battery in the Leaf e+ is nearly the same as the one found in the standard Leaf.
Meanwhile, the Leaf’s existing e-Pedal technology, which allows the driver to start, accelerate, decelerate and stop using only the accelerator pedal, has been reprogrammed for the e+ for smoother operation and enhanced pedal feedback, said Nissan.
Also new for the Leaf e+ is a larger, thin-film transistor, full-color 8-inch display, with an updated navigation system that can be linked to a compatible smartphone.
The Nissan Leaf Plus Series is scheduled to be available at Nissan dealerships in Japan in January 2019. U.S. sales are expected to begin in spring 2019 and European sales to commence in mid-2019, the automaker said. Pricing will be announced closer to on-sale date.
