Toyota Recalls Prius Hybrids for Engine Wire Harness
Toyota is recalling approximately 192,000 2016-2018 Toyota Prius hybrids in the U.S. because of a problem associated with the engine wire harness attached to the car's power unit.

Toyota is recalling approximately 192,000 2016-2018 Toyota Prius hybrids in the U.S. because of a problem associated with the engine wire harness attached to the car's power unit.
Specifically, the wire harness could contact the cover at the connection and wear down over time, potentially causing an electrical short circuit, which, in turn, can generate heat.
In the event enough heat is generated, there is an increased risk of fire and injury.
To remedy the problem, Toyota will notify owners in September, and dealers will inspect the engine wire harness assembly, and replace it with one that has a protective sleeve at no cost to owners. Protective tape will be installed on the engine wire harness assembly, if a wire core is not exposed.
Prius owners can reach the Toyota Customer Experience Center at (800) 331-4331. Customers can also check their vehicle's status by visiting toyota.com/recall and entering their Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) or license plate information.
The engine wire harness problem is part of a broader global recall of more than 1 million Prius vehicles, reports USA Today.
