FedEx will replace its gasoline-powered delivery vehicles with an initial fleet of 48 battery-electric vans in 13 cities in China, the company has announced.

The SAIC Maxus EG10 and EV80, which compose the new fleet, are capable of traveling over 136 miles with a maximum carrying capacity of 1.5 tons. The electric replacement vehicles are predicted to save about 2,500 liters of fuel per vehicle and cut carbon dioxide emissions by about 6.7 tons, says the FedEx Express.

About 2,800 of FedEx's 90,000 fleet vehicles are located in China. The replacement of gasoline-powered vehicles with electric vehicles is part of the company's goal to increase its vehicle efficiency by 50% by 2025.
