Zipcar has launched a new fleet management service called Local Motion by Zipcar, following its acquisition of car sharing technology company Local Motion in August 2015. The new service is a comprehensive vehicle hardware and software platform that allows large fleets to share vehicles.
Some features of Local Motion by Zipcar include: integration with employer RFID badges so drivers can access vehicles with one tap on the card reader, “Tap & Go” functionality for on-demand access to vehicles, and GPS and data tracking for vehicles.
“While much of the functionality is similar to Local Motion, Local Motion by Zipcar’s platform is new, which will enable Zipcar to continue to iterate on the new service, providing even more features and benefits in the future,” said Lindsay Wester, public relations manager for Zipcar.
In 2009, Zipcar launched its first fleet management service, Fast Fleet, which has outfitted corporate and government fleets with Zipcar’s car sharing technology. Zipcar will continue to support customers using the Fast Fleet platform while it launches the new offering and will also work with Fast Fleet customers interested in transitioning to the new system, Wester said.
