OnStar Mexico, a wholly owned subsidiary of General Motors Co. and General Motors de Mexico, announced that OnStar services are now active on select vehicles in Mexico. OnStar, an embedded telematics system, offers services focused on safety, navigation and connectivity for drivers and passengers.

OnStar combines sophisticated technology with access to live advisors 24 hours a day, seven days a week, according to OnStar Mexico. Initially available on the new Chevrolet Cheyenne and GMC Sierra pickups, OnStar will be available on the Cadillac ATS later this year. More vehicles across GM’s four vehicle brands – Chevrolet, Buick, GMC and Cadillac – will be equipped with OnStar throughout 2014.

OnStar announced its intent to expand into Mexico about nine months ago. To provide the personalized customer service for which OnStar is known, a call center in Mexico has been opened, staffed with advisors specially trained to assist drivers with directions, vehicle information, and emergency services.

"OnStar’s expansion in Mexico makes it the leading provider of security and communications services in Latin America," said Mary Chan, president GM Global Connected Consumer. "This is a very important step in GM’s global growth and in making connectivity services available to more consumers around the world.”

Some of the services OnStar will offer are:
•    Automatic Crash Response
•    Emergency Response
•    Remote Services
•    Stolen Vehicle Assistance
•    Turn-by-Turn Navigation
•    Vehicle Diagnostics
•    Real-time Advisors

Additional General Motors models with OnStar in the Mexican market will be announced according to their launch dates.

OnStar will be complimentary for one year to allow subscribers to experience the services, according to OnStar Mexico. Then subscribers may purchase their choice of two available packages, OnStar Connect and OnStar Connect Plus.
