The UN Global Compact calls for companies everywhere to align their operations and strategies with ten universally accepted human rights, labor, environment, and anti-corruption principles and to take action in support of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Launched in 2000, the UN Global Compact is the largest corporate sustainability initiative in the world, with more than 20,000 companies based in over 160 countries and more than 60 Global Compact Networks.

“Joining the UNGC is another step that demonstrates Wheels’ commitment to conducting business in a responsible way,” Shlomo Crandus, Wheels’ CEO, said.

“The UNGC principles align well with our values and programs we already have in place, like EcoWheels, our fleet sustainability program, which helps us tailor solutions and products to meet our clients’ unique needs. The principles provide a framework that will support our efforts to advance sustainable, responsible corporate practices that empower and benefit our Wheels community,” Crandus continued.

Wheels’ Commitment to a Greener Future

According to Wheels’ Corporate Responsibility insights page, the company has reduced 429 million pounds of carbon through sustainable vehicle implementation.

In addition to joining the United Nations Global Compact, Wheels has recently accomplished:

  • Consolidated workplace footprint from two Illinois locations to one, selecting a LEED Platinum-certified building, the highest rating from the U.S. Green Building Council.

  • Grew existing sustainable vehicle program, EcoWheels, to encompass nearly 70,000 sustainable vehicles in 2023. Sustainable vehicle options include battery electric vehicles (BEV), plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEV), and hybrid vehicles that support diverse fleet functions and business priorities.

  • Introduced a new employee volunteer program, offering paid time off for employee volunteer activities with approved 501(c)3 organizations. Wheels employees participated in nearly 200 hours of volunteer work through this initiative in the greater Chicago and Atlanta metro communities.
