Rivian Recalls Nearly Every Vehicle Sold

Rivian Automotive, LLC is recalling an estimated 12,212 of its 2022 R1T, R1S, and EDV vehicles for a loose bolt issue. The recall involves nearly all the electric pickups, vans, and SUVs the company has produced. The company started selling vehicles in the third quarter of 2021 and has delivered about 13,000 vehicles to date.
Specifically, the fastener connecting the front upper control arm and steering knuckle may have been improperly tightened. This is a serious issue as a loose steering knuckle could separate, causing a loss of vehicle control and increasing the likelihood of a collision.
Seven instances of the problem have been reported, according to the company, reports CNN.com. There have been no injuries to date.
To fix the problem, dealers will inspect, and as needed, tighten the steering knuckle fastener, at no cost to owners. Owner notification letters will be mailed Nov. 24.
In the meantime, customers who begin to hear unusual noises or experience vibrations from the front of their vehicles are advised to contact Rivian. The company plans to set up “pop up” service in areas with a high density of Rivian owners, according to the CNN.com report.
