The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has given its top safety honor to both the 2022 Genesis G70, a large sedan, and Genesis GV70, a midsize luxury SUV. With this latest recognition, all five vehicles in the Genesis lineup are now Top Safety Pick+ winners.

The G70 and the GV70 were put through the paces, undergoing a series of six challenging crashworthiness evaluations. These included the driver-side small overlap front, passenger-side small overlap front, moderate overlap front, side, roof strength, and head restraint tests.

But IIHS engineers expect even more. To earn “plus” status vehicles must be available with a front crash prevention system that earns advanced or superior ratings in both the vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-pedestrian evaluations. They must also come with good or acceptable headlights across all trims.

The G70 and GV70 aced both evaluations. Both Genesis models have standard good-rated headlights and standard front crash prevention systems that scored superior ratings in the vehicle-to-vehicle evaluation and advanced ratings in the vehicle-to-pedestrian test.

IIHS notes that for the G70, the Top Safety Pick+ award applies only to vehicles built after June 2021, when Genesis adjusted the aim of the headlights.
