Fleet Recovery from Pandemic Remains Tepid
Sponsored by:
The 51st State of the Fleet Industry video produced by Automotive Fleet offers an updated look at the state of the fleet market as presented by AF Editor Mike Antich.
Today's topics include:
- Impact of strong retail demand on fleet vehicle availability for popular models. Tight dealer inventory is causing dealers to grab as many vehicles as possible arguing sold retail units have higher margins than sold fleet units.
- Comparing total fleet miles driven in March 2021 compared to same time last year, broken out by industry segment. Most industry segments in March 2021 are up, but a third remain flat at pandemic mileage levels experienced in March 2020.
- Tracking number of vehicle trips by industry segment comparing March 2021 to same time last year. The predominance of fleets in March 2021 tend to be shorter trips than those in the pre-pandemic business environment.
- Benchmarking fleet business activity on an every other week basis from February 2020 to March 30, 2021 by tracking number of fuel fill-ups and volume of fuel purchased. Vocational vehicles remain robust with mileages increasing, while passenger vehicles have plateaued starting June 2020 to present.
