Mercedes-Benz revealed new technological and safety updates for the all-new 2021 S-Class sedan, which includes an enhanced version of its Mercedes-Benz User Experience (MBUX) and driving assistance package.

The latest generation of the Mercedes-Benz Driving Assistance Package has several new improved functions. This includes Active Distance Assist Distronic; Active Steering Assist; Traffic Sign Assist; Active Lane Keeping Assist; Active Lane Changing Assist; Active Emergency Stop Assist; Attention Assist; Active Brake Assist with cross-traffic function; Active Blind Spot Assist and exit warning function; Evasive Steering Assist; and predictive compliance with speed limits. The new driver assistance display helps project the operating principle of the driving assistance systems as a full-screen view.

During severe frontal collisions, the optional rear airbag can considerably reduce the impact on the head and neck area of the seat-belt-wearing occupants in the outer rear seats. The frontal airbag for the rear seat deploys particularly gently thanks to its innovative construction using a tubular structure.

The second generation of MBUX is debuting on the S-Class, the system features a 3D driver display, which allows spatial perception of the surroundings with a real 3D effect thanks to eye-tracking. Also featured on the new system is a large head-up display with augmented reality content. When navigating, for example, animated turn-off arrows are virtually and precisely projected onto the road lane.

Also, new active ambient lighting, with around 250 LEDs, is now integrated into the driving assistance systems, and is able to reinforce warnings visually.

Standard engine options for the 2021 S-Class is the S500 4Matic, which can be upgraded to the S580 4Matic. The S500 features a 3.0L turbocharged inline-six engine, which makes 429 hp and 384 lb.-ft. of torque, and is aided by Mercedes’ EQ Boost system. The S580 is powered by a 4.0L twin-turbo V8, and output is up to 496 hp and 516 lb.-ft of torque.
