Zero-Emission Bus Fleet Ready for Winter Games
BC Transit recently unveiled the hydrogen station that will fuel its fleet of 20 zero-emission hydrogen fuel cell buses. These vehicles will soon be carrying athletes and visitors to the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games in Whistler.
BC Transit recently unveiled the hydrogen station that will fuel its fleet of 20 zero-emission hydrogen fuel cell buses. These vehicles will soon be carrying athletes and visitors to the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games in Whistler.
The new hydrogen fuel station, built and operated by Air Liquide, has the capacity to fill 23 buses per day.
The hydrogen for the station is produced from 98-percent renewable resources. The hydrogen is first generated by electrolysis using mostly hydro-electricity from Quebec, and then liquefied and transported to Whistler.
The 20 buses were built by New Flyer Industries, based in Winnipeg, Manitoba. The company specializes in green transit.
The Winter Games begin Feb. 12.
