Workhorse has added a lighter-duty model for 2001 designed to compete with cargo vans. The new 10-foot 6-inch FT1061 step van is the latest of five step van models under the Workhorse badge. The single-rear-wheel FT1061 has a 9,600-pound GVWR with a 3,375-pound payload, 125-inch wheelbase, and an independent front suspension. It provides the maneuverability of a light truck while allowing drivers easier stand-up access to a larger cargo area than a cargo van. Other FasTrack models include 12-foot 6-inch, 14-foot 6-inch, 16-foot, and 18-foot models with GVWRs of 10,000 pounds with independent front suspension and 14,000 pounds with I-Beam suspension. Wheelbases range from 133 to 178 inches and payloads from 3,000 to 6,670 pounds. All use Vortec V-8 gasoline engines. The five models are completely produced by Workhorse Custom Chassis and can be ordered in less than half the time of other step vans. They are designed to be easily stocked by dealers at prices competitive with other light- and medium-duty trucks. One warranty covers both chassis and body, and Workhorse also provides free emergency roadside assistance. New features for 2001 on all FasTrack models include a lowered front step for easier cab entry and exit, optional jump-seat retainers, jump seats, and tilt pedestal passenger seats. These options are all part of a line designed to make the efficiency, safety and utility of the step van available to more businesses.
