The 2017 Volkswagen e-Golf has exceeded the automaker's fuel economy projections and range by providing 126 miles of range, according to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

The battery-electric e-Golf arrives with an updated electric motor that  produces 134 horsepower, which is 19 hp more than the earlier version. That would give the vehicle 83 miles of effective range.

The EPA has rated the 2017 e-Golf to achieve 126 miles per gallon equivalent in city driving and 111 miles per gallon equivalent on the highway. Combined fuel economy comes in at 119. The vehicle uses a 35.8-kWh lithium-ion battery pack with standard 7.2-kW onboard charger.

The 2017 e-Golf retails for at least $28,995.
