Volvo Cars is testing a new three-cylinder gasoline engine it says can produce up to 180 hp as the automaker seeks to revamp its powertrain offerings with a focus on "efficient power."
The engine would be the first three-cylinder powerplant developed by Volvo, which is joining several other automakers developing threes including BMW and Ford. Volvo is rolling out its new engine lineup known as Drive-E that were launched in 2013.
