Volvo Begins New Four-Cylinder Engine Family Production
Volvo is beginning production of the different engines in its previously announced new four-cylinder family. The new Volvo Engine Architecture family engines are set to be introduced in production models between 2013 and 2015.
Volvo is beginning production of the different engines in its previously announced new four-cylinder family. The company stated it’s developing the engines in-house at its engine plant in Skövde. Volvo has invested two billion Swedish kronor (roughly $300 million U.S.) in the Skövde plant as part of the development process.
The engines use Volvo Engine Architecture (VEA) technology. The new VEA engines are set to be introduced in production models between 2013 and 2015. The company plans to build 20,000 of the new engines in 2013 and increase production to 2,000 units per week by the end of the year.
The first new VEA engines will go into the Volvo S60, V60 (the automaker announced this model is headed to the U.S. earlier this year), XC60, V70, XC70 and S80 in autumn 2013, according to the automaker.
