Volkswagen has boosted the range of its battery-electric e-Golf compact sedan for 2017 by increasing the range by 50% to 125 miles, the automaker has announced.
With the increased range comes a price increase. The base e-Golf SE increases the entry price by $1,500 to $31,315 (including the $820 delivery charge).
The 2017 e-Golf is now rated with an EPA-estimated 126 equivalent miles per gallon in the city and an annual fuel cost estimate of $550.
An upgraded lithium-ion 35.8-kilowatt-per-hour battery pack (up from 24.2 kWh) feeds a more powerful 100-kilowatt electric motor (up from 85 kW) that can make 134 horsepower. Peak torque rises to 214 pound-feet from 199 lb.-ft. Top speed increases to 85 mph.
The 2017 e-Golf now includes a 7.2-kW onboard charger on all models.
In addition to the e-Golf SE, Volkswagen also offers the Limited Edition and SEL Premium that retail for $34,615 and $37,815 respectively.
