Volkswagen, Audi Recalls Address Fuel Leaks
Three separate recalls, involving multiple models, cover more than 281,000 vehicles.

Volkswagen Group of America is recalling more than 281,000 Volkswagen and Audi vehicles, as part of three separate recalls, to address potential fuel leaks that pose a fire risk, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
The largest of the three recalls involves 143,214 2009- to 2012-model year Audi Q5 and 2007- to 2012-model year Audi Q7 vehicles equipped with gasoline engines. The fuel cap flange on these crossover SUVs may crack, allowing fuel to leak.
Dealers will clean the pump flange and install a butyl rubber band to protect the pump, free of charge. Parts aren’t currently available, however. An interim notice will be sent to vehicle owners in early November, and a second notice will go out when parts come in.
A second recall involves 110,042 2015- and 2016-model year Volkswagen Golf, Golf SportWagen, GTI, Audi A3 sedan, and A3 Cabriolet vehicles, NHTSA said. Because of a problem with the suction pump inside the fuel tank, fuel may flow into the evaporative emissions (EVAP) system. As fuel accumulates in the EVAP system, it may leak out through the charcoal canister filter element.
Dealers will replace the suction pump, free of charge. But again, parts aren’t yet available so two notices will be sent.
The third recall covers 28,249 2012- and 2013-MY Audi A6 and Audi A7 vehicles that have a fuel hose in the engine compartment that may degrade and leak fuel.
Dealers will replace the under-hood fuel pump and fuel hose, free of charge. The notification schedule isn’t yet available, according to NHTSA.
