UPS Fleet Clean Air Initiatives Recognized by EPA
ATLANTA – The U.S. EPA has given United Parcel Service Inc. (UPS) a Clean Air Excellence Award for the company's alternative-fuel program and fuel conservation initiatives.
ATLANTA – The U.S. EPA has given United Parcel Service Inc. (UPS) a Clean Air Excellence Award for the company’s alternative-fuel program and fuel conservation initiatives, according to the Atlanta Business Chronicle. The annual award recognizes organizations that improve air quality through environmental programs. UPS was recognized in the “Transportation Efficiency Innovations” category for expanding its alternative-fuel fleet program and for other fuel conservation efforts. UPS has been adapting several new technologies for use in its large truck delivery fleet, including hybrid-electric, hydrogen fuel cell, and hybrid hydraulic vehicles. It has also deployed route-planning software and taken other steps in the air and on the ground to reduce emissions and save millions of gallons of fuel. According to the report, UPS has invested more than $15 million to date to deploy alternative-fuel vehicles in its fleet.
