TUCSON, Ariz. --- The city of Tucson has decided to run the majority of its fleet vehicles on biodiesel after completing a successful pilot program. According to KMSB-TV, the local Fox TV affiliate, the pilot program, which began July 17, ran without a hitch. There were no vehicle performance or maintenance problems associated with the diesel trucks participating in the test program. Pro Fuels received the city's new fuel contract on Oct. 1. The city is expected to use 200,000 fewer gallons of oil per year and save about 5 cents per gallon off the cost of diesel fuel. "This successful pilot project is an important step forward in expanding the city's use of alternative fuels," Ward 6 Council Member Nina Trasoff told KMSB-TV. "I commend our Fleet Services Division for their hard work on this project."
