ALEXANDRIA, VA – The Trucking Renting and Leasing Association (TRALA), working together with private sector allies in the truck transportation industry, has helped to establish a new Highway and Motor Carrier Sector Coordinating Council. The new council includes representatives of owners and operators of highway and motor carrier assets. The council will work together with federal and state governments on security-related policy matters affecting the sector. It will also facilitate information sharing and policy coordination on security issues among private sector stakeholders. The establishment of the Highway and Motor Carrier Sector Coordinating Council is a response to President Bush’s call for the private sector and government to work as partners to enhance the security of the nation’s critical infrastructure. There already exists within the U.S. Department of Homeland Security a Highway and Motor Carrier Government Coordinating Council.
