Toyota has begun building its 2020 Corolla at its Blue Springs, Miss., assembly plant, as the compact sedan enters its twelfth generation, according to the company.

The 2020 Corolla is adding new powertrain options, including a gasoline-electric hybrid model, and more standard safety technology. The vehicle was launched at the Los Angeles Auto Show in November.

The Corolla has been widely used by commercial fleets. In 2013, it was the second-most registered compact car behind the Ford Focus. Several large fleets have also been using the Corolla Hatchback that arrived for the 2019 model year.

During a ceremony, the plant's president, Sean Suggs, presented the town of Blue Springs with the first eleventh-generation Corolla that rolled off the assembly line on Sept. 7, 2013. It will be used to support the daily operations of the Blue Springs Police Department.

In April, Toyota announced that it would invest $170 million in its Mississippi plant to build the 2020 Corolla using TNGA — the new way Toyota designs, engineers and produces its vehicles.
