ERLANGER, KY - Toyota plans to increase its capacity to build four-cylinder engines at its Georgetown, Ky., plant, Toyota Motor Manufacturing, Kentucky (TMMK). This planned increase of 100,000 engines per year will bring its production capacity at this plan to more than 500,000 annually. This change will also increase Toyota’s total engine production to 1.2 million per year in the U.S.

The TMMK plant assembles engines for the Avalon, Camry, and Venza. Toyota also builds all of these vehicles at its TMMK plant. The production capacity increase will supply engines for TMMK’s Camry and Camry Hybrid and its RAV4, which the automaker builds in Woodstock, Ontario.

This announcement comes on the heels of others the company has made since February, including investments in Toyota plants in Indiana, West Virginia, and Canada. Toyota said the combined investment is approximately $565 million and adds nearly 1,000 jobs at these plants.

Toyota is making this investment as it transitions its manufacturing of vehicles for the North American market to the region, shifting away from overseas manufacturing.
