TORRANCE, CA – Flooding in Thailand is affecting automotive suppliers and manufacturing facilities in the region, and Toyota announced its U.S. production will be affected.

On Oct. 27, Toyota said it's suspending overtime production shifts at all of its North American vehicle assembly plants during the week of Oct. 31 - Nov. 5.

The company had posted an update on Oct. 26 saying it had planned to suspend Saturday (Oct. 29) production for Toyota vehicle manufacturing facilities in Indiana, Kentucky, Ontario, Canada and its engine manufacturing facility in West Virginia. 

On Oct. 25, a spokesperson from Toyota told Automotive Fleet that the company can confirm that there would be no overtime at the company’s Japan-based plants due to the flooding.

He said that of the 6,000 units built in Japan that are affected, the automaker is still studying how many of the vehicles are slated for the U.S. market. He said the company expects the number of vehicles affected to be minimal.

The automaker said it's studying the impact on production that will occur because of the overtime suspension in its U.S. plants.
