Time Warner Cable has purchased 540 of Ford's 2015 F-150 pickup trucks with extensive aluminum and the 2.7-liter EcoBoost with stop-start technology to aid its emissions reduction efforts.
The cabler is counting on the truck to help it save 2,900 tons of greenhouse gas emissions as part of a fleet upgrades that also include adding 400 diesel Ford Transit full-size vans and 200 Transit Connect compact vans. The vans Time Warner has added in recent years have helped the company achieve a 47-percent improvement in fuel economy.
The new order will bring Time Warner F-150 trucks with rear-wheel drive and the EcoBoost engine that helped it achieve a fuel economy rating by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency of 26 mpg on the highway, 19 mpg in the city, and 22 mpg combined.
The company's fleet drivers will use the trucks to transport equipment for installing and servicing Internet, TV and phone services to its customers’ homes and businesses. The company, based in New York City, is the nation’s second largest cable broadband.
"Time Warner Cable is committed to reducing our impact on the environment," said George Survant, Time Warner's senior director of fleet management. "The Ford F-150 is another way to help us achieve our sustainability goals. Energy and fuel efficiency are very important to us as we continue our efforts to ensure the TWC fleet is environmentally friendly."
