Tesla: Model S Rollout Plans Not Affected by Exec Departures

PALO ALTO, CA – Despite the recent departure of two key executives at Tesla Motors, Tesla CEO Elon Musk said Jan. 17 that production and sale of the company’s all-electric Model S will remain on schedule.
During an early-morning conference call, Musk said he was “highly confident” Tesla could deliver at least 20,000 cars in 2013. “I’m highly confident we’ll do better than the delivery date of the first Model S cars being in July,” he added.
Tesla Model S Signature
The conference call sought to allay investors’ concerns that Model S delivery plans might be jeopardized by the recent departures of Peter Rawlinson, who had served as the company’s president and chief engineer, and Nick Sampson, who supervised vehicle and chassis engineering.
When news of their departures broke Jan. 13, shares of Tesla slid 19 percent. After the Jan. 17 phone conference, shares rose as much as 20 percent.
