Tesla Motors is adding a new Model S sedan with "ludicrous mode" that allows the vehicle to accelerate from 0-60 mph in 2.8 seconds, CEO Elon Musk has announced.
The option would cost $10,000 to new buyers. Existing owners can get the upgrade for $5,000.
Ludicrous mode lets the car pull 1,500 amps instead of 1,300 amps all the way past 60 mph, which previously it couldn’t do, reports Bloomberg.
Tesla is also offering a $70,000 Model S with a 70-kilowatt-per-hour battery that's $5,000 less than the all-wheel-drive version that had been its entry-level model.
Ludicrous mode won’t be limited to the Model S. It will also debut on the Model X SUV later this year.
Other upgrades include an improved 90-kwh battery pack that extends the vehicle's range to 300 miles, when it's fully charged. For a $3,000 fee, customers can upgrade to the new battery pack.
