“I officially started my new position at the end of September 2019, but have been pulling double duty until our recent hire of Jeff Krumenauer,” said Switzky. “I was asked by my management to take over the Environment and Safety Department, and I’m looking forward to the new challenge. It was a very difficult decision to make and it took me a few weeks to decide. I love fleet and everything about it, but more specifically the people I’ve met and have had the privilege to work with over the years. Over the years, I’m most proud of my fleet team (Karen, Carol, and Deb) and all the challenges we faced over the years and how we always found an answer or solution to those challenges.”
In his new role, Switzky manages a team whose responsibilities include:
Establishing, maintaining and continually improving the environmental and safety programs for the organization.
Responsible for company-wide compliance with federal and state Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) laws/regulations throughout the organization.
Overseeing Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) workplace modifications for employees, customers, and visitors, along with controlling losses to the organization incurred through personal injury, or safety related operational disruptions.
Switzky has been with American Family Mutual Insurance for more than 22 years, 17 of which were in fleet. “I joined American Family Insurance right out of college working in personal lines services, then life underwriting, then collection specialist, and then started in fleet as a fleet/lease rep in 2003, became the fleet administrator in 2007, and fleet, trucking, and records retention manager in 2012.”
Looking back upon his 17 years in fleet management, Switzky said, “It’s been a great run, and I valued every moment. I was able to learn and grow with some of the best minds out there. I truly appreciate all the friendships I’ve made through fleet, and feel very blessed to have had the privilege to work in such an amazing industry filled with such unbelievable people. That is what I will miss the most, the people.”
