Georgia Power has opened 11 new electric vehicle (EV) charging islands to the public, the utility announced.
The new charging islands, located at Georgia Power properties throughout the state, mark the completion of the first phase of planned charging infrastructure being developed by the company, which will include approximately 61 community charging islands for public use statewide by the end of 2016, according to Georgia Power.
The chargers are located in Atlanta, Dunwoody, Duluth, Lilburn, Lawrenceville, Athens, Augusta, Savannah, Alpharetta, Lithonia, and Smyrna.
Georgia Power's EV stations offer multiple options for drivers, including a DC fast charger (CHADeMo/SAE combo plugs) and a Level 2 208/240-volt charger.
In addition to developing public charging infrastructure, Georgia Power offers EV charger rebates for business and residential customers and a special rate for EV customers. The company also recently added dozens of plug-in electric hybrid Chevrolet Volts to its statewide fleet.
