Rep. Bill Shuster (R-PA) has been selected by the House Republican Conference to again serve as Chairman of the Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure. He will wield the gavel during the 115th Congress, which will run from January 2017 through the end of 2018.

The committee handles legislation affecting all modes of transportation and is also tasked with oversight of the Department of Transportation. Shuster has chaired the committee since 2014.

“It is an honor to be selected again by my colleagues to serve as Chairman of the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee in the next Congress,” Shuster said in a statement.

He noted that by “working across the aisle” the committee was able to pass such key legislation as the most recent highway bill, the FAST Act, as well as other infrastructure-related measures.

“We have a unique opportunity to accomplish a great deal for the American people with a president-elect who is focused on improving the nation’s infrastructure,” Shuster added. “I look forward to working with my colleagues and the new administration to strengthen America’s competitiveness and provide the country with a 21st century infrastructure.”

Shuster was elected to his ninth term after decisively beating his Tea Party-backed opponent, who had narrowly lost the Republican primary but then garnered enough write-in votes to run as a Democrat.
