Renault-Nissan Signs EV Deal for City in China

GUANGZHOU, CHINA --- The Renault-Nissan Alliance, the government of Guangzhou in south China and Dongfeng Motor Co. (Nissan's Chinese venture partner) have all partnered to promote electric car use in the city of Guangzhou, the Detroit News reported.

GUANGZHOU, CHINA --- The Renault-Nissan Alliance, the government of Guangzhou in south China and Dongfeng Motor Co. (Nissan's Chinese venture partner) have all partnered to promote electric car use in the city of Guangzhou, the Detroit News reported.

The three parties signed an electric vehicle industry development agreement on Nov. 22. Renault-Nissan and its partners will perform a feasibility study of EV infrastructure development and incentives required to make electric vehicles accessible to the population of Guangzhou, a large city formerly known as Canton.

The Renault-Nissan Alliance has signed more than 30 agreements with cities, counties, states and governments to promote zero-emission EVs and establish a battery-charging infrastructure, the Detroit News reported.

Nissan Motor Co. is set to launch its electric vehicle model in China in 2011.

Dongfeng Nissan Passenger Vehicle Co., a joint venture between Nissan and its China partner Dongfeng Motor, has plans for an EV factory in Huadu District, near Guangzhou.
