AUSTIN, TEXAS – Texans who buy hybrid vehicles could get a 10-percent rebate on their sales tax under proposed legislation, according to the Web site www.kltv7.com. The bill is House Bill 1335, which would be an effort to diminish dependence on foreign oil and decrease vehicle emissions. The sponsors are Representatives Dwayne Bohac of Houston and Rafael Anchia of Dallas. They say Texas must confront the serious challenge of reducing vehicle emissions, not to mention reducing dependence on foreign oil. Buyers of hybrid engine or alternative-fuel vehicles would be eligible for the rebate based on emissions ratings. Money for the rebates would come from the Texas Emission Reduction Plan, known as TERP.
