SACRAMENTO, CA – Over three days and more than 400 miles, the Propane Alternative Fuel Road Show visited three California cities this week, providing attendees the opportunity to experience first-hand new propane engine fuel technologies now available.

Hosted by the Western Propane Gas Association (WPGA), in partnership with the Propane Education & Research Council (PERC), the Propane Alternative Fuel Road Show kicked off with an event in Sacramento, moved to Fresno, and concluded in Los Angeles.

On display and available for test drive were the propane-powered Roush F-150 pick-up truck, the Blue Bird VISION school bus, and the GM 8.1L medium-duty truck. All vehicles are aimed at reducing carbon intensity of transportation fuels and ultimately reducing conventional fuel consumption.

“The Propane Alternative Fuel Road Show was an enormous success, introducing California government and private fleet operators to the next generation of propane-powered vehicle technology,” said Brian Feehan, vice president, PERC. “Propane is rapidly establishing itself as an important alternative fuel in the transportation sector because of its impressive environmental benefits and inherent cost advantages over gasoline, diesel, and other alt-fuels.”

During the Road Show, representatives from PERC, WPGA, Blue Bird Corporation, Roush Industries, and the U.S. Department of Energy’s Clean Cities were on hand to show California state officials and private fleet managers how important propane has become as an alternative-fuel option to help them meet new environmental goals, while at the same time providing a secure, efficient, and cost-effective energy source.

“Along with providing a solution for reducing dependence on foreign oil, propane-powered vehicles are more cost-effective, cleaner burning, and environmentally-friendly than traditional gasoline or diesel fuels,” said Feehan. “With nearly 90 percent of U.S. propane supplies produced at existing domestic facilities, propane provides fleet operators an extremely secure energy resource which supplies about four percent of total domestic energy needs, fueling more than 10 million vehicles worldwide.”
