Porsche Cars North America sold 1,263 Macan compact SUVs in May, after the vehicle arrived at dealers in the middle of the month, the automaker has announced.

Porsche reported sales of the 2015 Macan S and Macan Turbo for a two-week time frame. Porsche executives were pleased with the initial results and said the results showed the vehicle "has made good on its initial promise to make an impact in the compact SUV segment," said Detlev von Platen, North American president and CEO.

The Macan was the nearly the top-selling Porsche for the month, making up 27.4 percent of sales. Porsche sold 1,294 Cayenne large SUVs. In May, Porsche sold 4,609 total vehicles.
