Buyers have been slow to embrace the 2015 Porsche Macan in the first four months since the compact SUV arrived in May, according to a sales report from the automaker.

From May through August, Porsche sold 3,947 Macan compact SUVs. The Macan has outsold the Panamera among Porsche models this year by two units.

So far in 2014, the Porsche Cayenne remains the nameplate's top seller with 11,744 units sold followed by the 911/918 (7,051 units) and the Boxster/Cayman with 5,072 units. Total Porsche sales for August rose 36.5 percent from the same month in 2013, an increase mostly attributed to the Macan. Porsche sold 4,540 in August compared with 3,327 in August of 2013.
