BUFFALO, Ind. --- GEI Fuels is advancing plans to build a $6.5 million biodiesel plant at a landfill site north of Lafayette. The proposed plant would use soybean oil to make fuel. The company already operates a plant that processes waste gases into energy at the Liberty Landfill about 30 miles north of Lafayette, the News-Sentinel reported. The proposed plant's capacity would be about 5 million gallons of fuel each year. The facility is expected to employ about 15 people. GEI Fuels is awaiting all the required permitting from the state and EPA. The plant, if approved, is slated to open in late 2008.
