UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. --- Penn State is collaborating with the company Air Products on a hydrogen-fuel station and fleet demonstration. Funding for the project comes from the U.S. Energy Department and the Pennsylvania departments of Environmental Protection and Community and Economic Development. Penn State participants include the university’s Pennsylvania Transportation Institute, Centre Area Transportation Authority and Office of Physical Plant. The project’s goals are to fuel about 25 hydrogen cars daily and to compare the efficiency, performance and maintenance of vehicles running on CNG, CNG blended with hydrogen, and pure hydrogen. Penn State’s Pennsylvania Transportation Institute is working with Collier Technologies to convert vans and buses to CNG blended with hydrogen for operation on campus.
