Twenty-five companies and organizations received $7.7 million in grant funds from Pennsylvania to covert fleet vehicles to run on natural gas, Gov. Tom Corbett announced March 21.
The funding comes through the state's Act 13 grant program, which provided an initial round of grants to fleets in May 2013.
The grants, which ranged from $122,500 to $500,000, will help cover the cost of purchasing compressed natural gas (CNG) vehicles or conversion of existing vehicles to run on CNG. Many of the larger grants will go toward the conversion of purchase of tractor trailers.
Grants for commercial fleets will fund six CNG refuse trucks for Burgmeiers Hauling; five conversions for textile delivery fleet Paris Companies; 20 conversions to dual fuel refuse trucks for Advanced Disposal; 23 purchases for Penske Truck Leasing; and 26 CNG refuse trucks for Waste Management.
Grants for government fleets include 10 CNG vehicles for Penn State University, State College Borough, and Centre Area Transportation Authority as well as five conversions and five purchases for Lancaster County Solid Waste Management Authority, the City of Lancaster, and Goods Disposal Service.
